Foster to Adopt Only
Oscar is a 6-year-old, 10-pound Shih Tzu-Dachsund mix, originally found as a stray. Looking like a gray mop, his fur was long and matted but after a trim, this little pup looked very handsome. Oscar is still adapting to living off the streets and learning to trust. Oscar is not a match for a home with small children. He can only be placed with someone who is patient and experienced with a fearful dog and who will give him the time and space he needs to learn that his world is a safe place. Oscar is eager to please and super smart, and he easily learns new tricks. He is very treat motivated and he's fast at remembering progressions and patterns in training. He loves action, being outdoors, walking and hiking. He enjoys running around and playing on the beach and is curious about the ocean. He can hike and walk forever so will do best in a home with active people. Oscar also really loves his naps! He's usually a very quiet and calm dog, but he can be reactive to people coming and going. Oscar does resource guard his food/treats/chew toys. This is a serious issue his previous owner worked on with him, but he will bite if people do not learn to recognize his warning signals. Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.
