Sweetheart is a 2-3 year old, spayed 70lb Labrador Retriever/Great Dane mix. The volunteers at the shelter gave her the name Sweetheart and it really does suit her!

Sweetheart is a joy to meet and spend time with. She loves every person she meets and greets all of her new friends with kisses, cuddles and the opportunity to give her a belly rub!

At home with her foster mom, Sweetheart is a gardening assistant, making sure her mom has all the help she needs! When not on duty, she loves to lie in the sun outside or snuggle next to mom indoors. Once in awhile she even tries out being a lap dog - though 70 pounds is a lot anyone's lap :-)

Sweetheart is learning everything. We don't think she had any training or guidance before the shelter, but she is a quick study! She already knows that "sit" is a great default position, car rides are great, and walks are starting to be a fun activity with mom. A very food motivated girl, she is also learning that kitchen counters are off limits, but treats are always on hand when she pays attention to her humans. When not working for treats, Sweetheart loves a great chew toy to work on.

In addition to helping her mom in the garden, Sweetheart is an excellent bird watcher! She likes to hang out and watch her mom's parakeets, endlessly fascinated by their tweets and fluttering!

Sweetheart suffered terribly in the shelter. Already at risk for an Addison's disease by genetics, the extreme stress of the shelter environment triggered an Addisonian crisis and Sweetheart lost nearly 20 pounds in less than three months. The shelter could not diagnose her, but once we got her into a loving foster home, we turned to our vet team who quickly got a diagnosis and treatment plan together. Thankfully, Addison's disease is a manageable condition and she has a long, happy life ahead of her.

Sweetheart will give some lucky family the chance to be loved by the bestest girl ever.
