Department: Animal Operations

Cat Foster Program Manager

Responsibilities: Involved in intake process of cats into the foster program. This includes coordinating with the Shelter Assessment Team to post pleas and match cats with appropriate fosters, and facilitating their move into foster care. Assigns both a foster parent and foster coordinator to each cat depending on needs of cats and internal foster grading system. Acts as escalation person for foster coordinators when in need of direction.

Requirements: Ability to multitask and be very responsive via phone and internet. Must be available during hours that rescue is making assessments.

Kitten Foster Program Manager

Responsibilities: Involved in the intake process of kittens into the foster program. This includes coordinating with local shelter on intake, matching kittens with appropriate foster parents, and facilitating their move into foster care. Assigns both a foster parent and foster coordinator to each kitten/group of kittens depending on needs of kittens and experience level of a foster parent. Acts as escalation person for foster coordinators when in need of direction. Offers encouragement and support throughout the process. Leads kitten adoption events and works with other volunteers involved in social media and marketing.

Requirements: Ability to multitask and be very responsive via phone and internet. Must be available during hours that rescue is making assessments.

Time Commitment: Up to 20 hours per week depending on influx of kittens

Dog Foster Program Manager

Responsibilities: Involved in the intake process of dogs into the foster program and onboarding new dog foster parents into SVPP's foster program. Duties include reviewing dog foster applications; interviewing foster parents and providing them with all necessary materials to become part of our SVPP Foster program; coordinating with the Shelter Assessment Team to post pleas and match dogs with appropriate fosters, and facilitating their move into foster care. The Manager also assigns both a foster parent and foster coordinator to each dog depending on the needs of dogs and internal foster grading system. Acts as escalation person for foster coordinators when in need of direction.

Requirements: Ability to multitask and be very responsive via phone and internet. Must be available during hours that rescue is making assessments. Must have previous dog fostering experience.

Foster Parent Recruiter

Responsibilities: Bring new foster parent volunteers into the program by determining innovative recruiting methods. Process inquiries and screen applicants.

Requirements: Recruiting and/or customer service experience desired. A keen understanding of both people and pets. We are looking for individuals who share a strong passion for SVPP’s mission and a deep understanding of the requirements of a successful foster parent volunteer.

Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per week

Foster Coordinator/Buddy

Responsibilities: First point of contact with the foster parent. Will deliver the animal to the foster family, provide initial supplies and equipment and reiterate instructions from orientation regarding marketing needs, etc. Must respond to foster parent’s questions via email or phone in a timely manner. You will work closely with other members of the foster team to assist the foster parent in all aspects of getting the animal ready for adoption. Build a strong and supportive relationship with foster parents to ensure open communication and encourage them to consider fostering on a regular basis. May be involved in meet & greet with potential adopters. Does initial post-adoption follow up (after 3 days).

Requirements: Must have previous fostering experience. Customer service, organizational skills and have strong social and communication skills.

Foster Parent

Responsibilities: Responsible for the daily care of a foster animal, including feeding, exercising, playtime, socialization, grooming, reinforcing basic obedience commands and, of course, providing patience, love and security. SVPP will provide all necessary medical care and our Foster Teams will provide full support throughout the foster period. Any additional expenses incurred by the foster parent may be tax-deductible. Must be willing to work with the pet to help them get ready for adoption. This may include housebreaking, basic training, socialization, etc. You may also need to transport the foster animal to scheduled medical appointments and/or adoption events and photoshoots as well as administer any required medications. Providing foster care will certainly be a rewarding experience as you are enabling the animal to go on to the greatest adventure – a place where he/she will be cherished and loved until a great forever home is found.

Requirements: To be a successful foster parent, you will need a compassionate nature, flexibility, willingness to follow instructions and interest and/or knowledge of animal behavior. Frequent email updates are required, and responsiveness to our team is critical to the success of our foster program. Reliable computer, internet service and transportation. A fenced yard is preferred, but not necessary for dog foster parents. Cat/kitten fosters are indoor only.

Foster Appreciation Coordinator

Responsibilities: Provide support and assistance in our SVPP foster program to ensure that our greatest asset, our foster parents, and the pets they foster, are getting the support they need. Examples include providing unsolicited care packages to our pets in foster care (like Bark Boxes for both dogs and cats), and assisting our SVPP Foster Team with a variety of tasks.

Requirements: We are looking for creative, up beat, animal loving humans who like working within a team.

Home Visit Volunteer

Responsibilities: Visit potential adopters and/or fosters in their home environment to assess safety and suitability for prospective adoptable or foster pets. For foster parents, volunteer will review program requirements and have foster parent sign foster parent release form. Visits should be no more than 30 minutes and checklist will be provided.

Requirements: Reliable transportation, drivers license and car insurance. Good interpersonal and customer service skills.

Transport Coordination Manager

Responsibilities: Coordinate logistics of transport needs on behalf of the organization (i.e. rescue pick up, chauffeuring animals to/from medical or therapy visits, picking-up donations or helping with special event transport). Be the main point of contact to reach out to volunteers with transport needs.

Requirements: Ability to multitask, very organized, good at logistics, positive can do attitude!

Animal Care Coordinator

Responsibilities: Provide support to Animal Care Manager. Follow up with foster parents regarding necessary vaccinations, vet appointments, medical records, etc.

Requirements: Volunteer must have access to email and phone and be able to respond during working hours. Requires knowledge of common canine and feline health issues.

Department: Fundraising/Development

Development Manager

Responsibility: Implement the annual and long-range strategy for securing gifts from a variety of sources, including foundations, corporations, individuals and events. You will play an integral role in forging new relationships, building a pipeline of new donors, individual and business sponsors and corporate partners to execute SVPP’s overall fundraising strategy. Work with a team to research and write grants and oversee donor recognition.

Requirements: Prior experience in development is required. Excellent organization and communication skills.

Donor Relations Manager

Responsibilities: Primary liaison for SVPP’s community of donors. Responsible for cultivating, stewarding, and expanding the relationships with donors; providing communication and service to donors, maintaining and managing donor information and engaging supporters. Also, responsible for maintaining donor database entries and issuing donor acknowledgements.

Requirements: Experience in stewarding donors with strong interpersonal communication skills and able to build and sustain relationships through individual contacts. Experience developing events; research and planning.

Vendor Relations Manager

Responsibilities: The point person for our service providers. Responsibilities include solidifying the relationship with the vendor and ensuring cross-promotion of our vendors with our customers.

Requirements: Experience in customer service and vendor relationships with strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build and sustain relationships through individual contacts; research and planning.

Department: Volunteer Management

Volunteer Manager

Responsibilities: The position will oversee and implement all aspects of the volunteer program including recruitment, screening, placement, retention, appreciation, evaluation and development. Respond to all volunteer inquiries, have a general idea of the volunteer needs for the organization.

Requirements: In this critical position, the volunteer should have strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and build rapport with people. Experience managing people and/or volunteers strongly preferred solid working knowledge of Silicon Valley Pet Project.

Volunteer Recruiter

Responsibilities: Bring new volunteers into the program by determining innovative recruiting. Retain reliable committed foster parents and volunteers. Process inquiries and screen applicants.

We are looking for individuals who share a strong passion for SVPP’s mission and a deep understanding of the requirements of a successful foster parent and volunteer. Youth Program Manager

Responsibilities: Develop and manage youth programs that help young citizens grow into compassionate adults, responsible and better-educated pet caregivers, and supporters of animal protection.

Mentor

Responsibilities: Individuals with strong expertise to be a resource and build on the existing skills and knowledge of the board members and volunteer staff. Department: Marketing & Communications 

Marketing Manager

Responsibility: Work across the organization to identify and execute marketing campaigns for the organization, events, programs and adoptable animals. Contribute copy, content and visual imagery for SVPP publications, digital and social communication and print collateral to engage targeted audiences. Help recruit, approve and oversee volunteers in the Marketing Department.

Requirements: Prior experience in marketing is required. Must be creative, have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Graphic Designer

Responsibilities: Work closely with Marketing and Communications managers to create design solutions that have high visual impact for web and/or print to include ads, invitations, posters, newsletters, website graphics, etc. Must have a creative flair, up-to-date knowledge of industry software and a professional approach to time, costs and deadlines. Will need to be able to turn around design requests quickly.

Communications Manager

Responsibilities: Manage communication channels to grow awareness of SVPP, its mission, brand, programs, and services. Oversee development of all SVPP print communications including marketing collateral materials and electronic communications including SVPP’s website and new media; manage relationships with associated vendors. Serve as a spokesperson and lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or impact the organization. Ensure that the SVPP brand is consistent and accurately represents the organization’s mission and goals. Maintain organization's mailing lists and lead communication efforts out to various stakeholders of the organization (general public, volunteer population, donors, etc.). Work closely with the Marketing Manager and SVPP leadership team.

Requirements: Prior experience in marketing and communications. Must be creative, have excellent organizational and communication skills; experience with design software and computer programs (Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, social media platforms, etc). Able to manage a volunteer team with a passion for SVPP mission.

Animal Marketing Evangelist

Responsibilities: Identify and enforce SVPP marketing standards for our adoptable animals. May coordinate photo shoots, video shoots. Will provide guidance to foster parents on how to better market their foster pets. Oversees bio writers, photographers, and the online posting team; ensures all adoptable animals have bios and photos online. Come up with fresh, innovative marketing campaigns for adoptable animals.

Requirements: Must be creative, tech savvy and have prior experience with rescue animals.

Pet Profile Writer

Responsibilities: Write colorful, accurate descriptions for our adoptable animals. The bios will be used on our website and social media platforms to introduce the animals to potential adopters. This volunteer will need to gather information on the animal through foster animal surveys that have been submitted by the foster family. These profiles will need to be updated if the animal stays in SVPP care for an extended period of time.

Requirements: Good writing skills including attention to grammar and sentence structure. Ability to write in a creative, positive style. Reliable computer and internet service.

Newsletter Editor

Responsibilities: Work closely with copywriters, graphic artists and photographers to create both the monthly Volunteer newsletter and Supporter/Past Adopter newsletter. Content will include information such as upcoming fundraising events and initiatives, spotlight on community partners, animal care and training tips, happy tails, volunteer opportunities, etc.

Requirements: Must be creative, tech-savvy, and have experience in creating an online newsletter.

Social Media Manager

Responsibilities: Lead the social media team in building and implementing social media programs. Ensure appropriate messaging is executed online incorporating Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.

Requirements: Proficient in social media platforms. Experience building and coordinating a team of volunteers. PR or marketing experience a plus. Must maintain knowledge of our adoptable animals. Flexible schedule that allows for monitoring of all social media platforms throughout the day.

Social Media Team Member

Responsibilities: One team member for each of the following platforms: Youtube, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram. Keep the audience engaged by providing information about upcoming fundraising events and initiatives, intros of new pets available for adoption, happy tails, volunteer opportunities, animal care, and training tips, etc. Works with Social Media manager to provide and disseminate engaging, fun, educational content to be shared thru social media outlets.

Facebook Administrator

Responsibilities: Serve as administrator for SVPP’s general and foster facebook pages.

  • monitor other groups’ pages for cross-posting material
  • monitor both pages throughout the day to ensure posts follow basic protocols
  • monitor and respond to posts, comments and private messages from the public and foster families
  • Create and schedule postings that increase and retain Facebook followers (e.g., cute photo contests, posting questions which open up discussion and sharing of ideas, etc.)
  • Disseminate important information to our foster community including volunteer opportunities, training tips, fundraising events, volunteer social events, etc
  • Work with creative team to keep Facebook cover photo engaging
  • Maintain and engage with community partners connected thru Facebook

Requirements: Great people and communication skills, self starter, animal rescue volunteer background a plus.

Time Commitment: This position can be shared among multiple admins, and requires someone who has access to FB throughout the day and can answer questions/Facebook messages as needed.

Public Relations Manager

Responsibilities: Work closely with the Management team and Marketing & Communications Manager to promote the organization and our adoptable animals to the public. Identify and maintain media contact list, draft press releases, and work with the creative team on promoting specific events, and campaigns.

Requirements: Must have excellent writing and editing skills. PR background a plus.

Time Commitment: Flexible. 1+ hr/week. It is best to commit to a specific day each week to help manage workflow.

Web Designer/Developer

Responsibilities: Responsible for website design and development, including the creation of custom graphics, designing the user interface and overall customer experience for our website. This includes overall navigation flow, the layout of specific pages, and creation of individual graphic elements.

Requirements: Previous experience in web design/development, technical capacity, and communication proficiency. Ability to work in a team environment, flexible and the ability to work without a lot of lead time.

Pet Photographer

Responsibilities: Take striking photos of our adoptable animals to show them at their best, cropping and editing as needed. The animals' photos will be posted on SVPP’s website and social media to promote our animals for adoption. Photos may be taken in a studio, in the foster family’s home, outdoors or at adoption events. SVPP can provide backdrops and other equipment if needed.

Requirements: You must own a digital camera (an SLR camera is preferred) and have the ability to take nice, clear photos. Must have the technical ability to load and edit photos; reliable computer and internet service.

Event Photographer

Responsibilities: Document SVPP events through pictures. Photographers will be photographing the crowd, events, and activity, etc. It is a fun opportunity to help animals in need!

Videographer

Responsibilities: Create compelling videos of our adoptable animals, document SVPP special events, and assist in creating marketing campaigns. Videos will be posted on SVPP’s website and social media platforms to promote our organization and adoptable animals.

Requirements: We welcome both experienced and novice videographers. Must be able to work with the creative team to bring their vision to life. Must supply your own equipment.

Flyer Distribution Manager

Responsibilities: Coordinate strategic posting of flyers at pet-friendly locations throughout the area. Need to also remove postings when animal has been adopted.

Mission Ambassador/Face of SVPP

Responsibilities: In conjunction with other SVPP team members, use creative promotional strategies that will strengthen and promote SVPP’s mission, brand and services to the community. Be a positive agent to create awareness and tell the world about Silicon Valley Pet Project and why they should care about our mission as much as we do! Your efforts will help raise SVPP profile and help our fundraising bottom line. Represent SVPP at public speaking engagements such as fundraisers and events. Meet with the media as needed.

Communications Specialist

Responsibilities: Writing, editing and coordinating the content of SVPP internal/external newsletters, create and distribute newsletters in Mailchimp, maintain mailing lists, manage communication calendar.

Requirements: Demonstrated experience managing newsletters (experience with Mailchimp a must); a strong sense of professionalism and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication; Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of cross-functional teams.

Collateral Coordinator

Responsibilities: Main point of contact for ordering SVPP collateral for different departments and groups including Volunteer T-shirts, business cards, etc.; maintaining inventory of collateral materials; Coordinate with design team and distribute T-shirt for general public purchase; track inventory and distribution.

Responsibilities: Works directly with the PR Manager and Communications; providing support, planning, research local press outlets and tactical execution of public relations strategy.

Financial Manager

Responsibilities: Oversees all finance functions of the organization. Responsible for managing investment accounts plus reviewing and submitting the annual budget. Work closely with the Finance Team to review and account for all organization expenditures, approve purchases and issue reimbursements. Manage organization budget; Tax preparation and filing.

  • Receive, record and appropriately deposit all revenue

Community Outreach Coordinators

Responsibilities: Help promote adoption events, fundraisers and special pets via Next Door, elist, etc., in specific neighborhoods. May also provide educational materials on animal welfare resources available to neighborhoods or participate in special projects.

Requirements: Volunteers should have a strong commitment to animal rescue, great working knowledge of the adoption process and enjoy working with people as well as knowledge of animal welfare challenges (i.e. need for spay/neuter, community cats support, etc).

Database & Documentation Editor

Responsibilities: Provide administrative support and data management for the following:

Department: Pup Plaza

Adoption Events Support (Dog & Kitten)

Responsibilities: Provide support on the day of the adoption event, including caring for the pets at the event (potty breaks for dogs, kitten care). Assist with set up and break down of space, including required signage. Greet the public and provide assistance in answering their questions about Silicon Valley Pet Project, Pup Plaza, fostering, etc.

Requirements: Animal handling skills and/or great customer service skills. Knowledge of  Silicon Valley Pet Project; it’s history, mission, and procedures. 

Time Commitment: We hold weekly dog adoption events on site and kitten adoption events monthly. Each event is typically 3-4 hours.

Community Outreach Volunteer

Responsibilities: We are looking for enthusiastic people who like to chat with people and promote our mission of saving lives. Duties include helping us spread the word about our programs and mission via Nextdoor, social media and community events.

Dog Day Out Photographer

Responsibilities: Capture photos of dogs (with and without volunteers) for marketing, promotion and social media purposes. Training or experience in photography preferred, experience with digital editing tools a big plus.

Requirements: Photography skills. 

Time Commitment: Varies. Our Shelter Dog Day Out program is held weekly and we like to have a photographer come to take photos during each session.

Dog Day Out Transport Driver

Responsibilities: As a Transport Driver, you will pick up shelter dogs from the SJ Animal Care Center and deliver them to our Pup Plaza location in the morning and return the dogs in the afternoon. The Transport Driver ensures proper paperwork is collected on the morning run and returned with the dogs on the afternoon run. Crates are provided by the shelter, ensure that all crates to ensure they are properly closed on all sides and secured safely in vehicle. 

Requirements: Valid CA Driver’s License required, & transport vehicle must have adequate space for crates.

Time Commitment: Varies but typical transport and drop off takes about an hour.

Dog Day Out Volunteer

Responsibilities: As a part of a team, work together in releasing dogs from their crates, harness, leash and supervise them as they acclimate to the area. Engage with dogs in all approved activities, walking, light training and play, limited treats.

Requirements: Flexibility working with various sizes and types of dogs, walking on leash. Able to lift up to 20-pound dog, comfortable with high energy dogs, dogs that pull on leash or that have no leash training. 

Time Commitment: Shifts are 3 hours on Mondays from 10:30 am to 3:30pm.

Events Planner

Responsibilities: Coordinate and supervise the volunteers in planning adoption, fundraising and special events such as booths at local festivals and community events to promote SVPP's message and community participation.

Requirements: Strong organizational and supervisory skills, enjoy working with people and pets, prior event planning experience preferred.

Time Commitment: 10-15 hrs/month

Events Promotion

Responsibilities: Provide support in helping us promote our events via social media, Nextdoor, based on the event/program and target audience. 

Requirements: Knowledge of social media, online calendars, event promotion experience preferred. 

Time Commitment: Very flexible, depending on event/s.

Events Support

Responsibilities: Assist in the planning and/or day of fundraising and/or special events such as booths at local festivals and community events to promote SVPP's message and community participation.

Requirements: Enjoy working with people and pets and knowledge of Silicon Valley Pet Project; its history, mission, and procedures. 

Time Commitment: 10-15 hrs/month

Program Support Coordinator

Responsibilities: Coordinate tasks and activities for new and existing programs at Pup Plaza. Must be detail-oriented, able to multi-task, strong project management skills required. Team player with a sense of humor!

Requirements: Enjoy working with people and pets, great communication skills, attention to detail and great at follow thru on tasks. 

Time Commitment: 10-15 hrs/month
