When we rescued Leo from the final status list at the San José Animal Care Center, we believed he would be permanently disabled. Our team prepared to outfit him with a wheelchair and provide the lifelong care he would need to thrive.

But Leo’s story took a hopeful and unexpected turn. After a visit with Dr. Fitch at Beacon Veterinary Specialists, we learned Leo has a congenital defect in both back legs—a Grade 4 patella luxation caused by misaligned quadriceps muscles. It’s serious, but surgically correctable.

With this surgery, Leo—just a year old—has a very promising prognosis. He could live many years walking and running without pain. Your support can help us give Leo that future.
