Meet Walter: A Living Piece of History

To the people who saw him wandering near a homeless encampment in Alviso, he was just a stray. To the trappers who finally brought him to safety, he was a survivor. But to the scientists who ran his DNA, he is a 100% Egyptian Street Dog—a living piece of history.

How did a "Prince of the Nile" end up on the streets of Silicon Valley? We may never know his full story, but at Silicon Valley Pet Project (SVPP), we know how his next chapter needs to start.

The Mystery of our Silicon Valley Prince

Walter isn’t just a rescue; he is a statistical miracle. All Egyptian Baladi dogs are naturally evolved "landrace" dogs. Because there are no breeders in the U.S., they are incredibly rare on this continent. Most are brought here through grueling international logistics at a cost of thousands of dollars.

Finding a stray in Alviso with an Egyptian microchip is rare enough. Finding one with 100% Egyptian DNA and zero American influence? That is unheard of. Walter  is a first-generation immigrant who somehow lost his way, but survived against all odds.

A Difficult Journey to Recovery

Walter’s royal lineage didn't protect him from the hardships of the street. He arrived at SVPP with a host of medical concerns: neglected skin, dental decay, and severe ear infections. Most concerning, however, was a painful leg injury.

The Diagnosis: Imaging revealed that Walter had a metal plate and screws in his leg—likely a previous repair from being hit by a car. Sadly, the screws had become loose and an infection was leaking from the site, causing him immense pain.

Thankfully, with a specialty surgery to remove the hardware and address the infection, his prognosis is positive. But he needs his "royal court" to help him across the finish line.

How You Can Help

Support Walter’s Medical Fund: We need to raise $5,000 to cover Walter's surgery, specialist consultations, and post-op rehabilitation. Walter has traveled across the globe and survived the elements alone. Now, he finally has us.

Help us Find His Forever Home: We are looking for an extra special forever home for Walter to treat him like the royalty he is!
