Feline Foster Program
Silicon Valley Pet Project (SVPP) rescues felines of all ages from our local animal shelters. We partner with San Jose Animal Care Center, TriCity Animal Shelter, and County of Santa Clara Animal Services. We rescue felines of all ages—including many kittens, adults, seniors, and special needs cats who often require significant medical support that they cannot receive in a shelter environment. All felines are placed in foster care where they live in the private homes of our volunteer foster parents. SVPP provides for all of their medical and behavioral needs, and covers all expenses for their care while in foster care.
Our foster program is supported by professional and skilled staff, including:
Animal Care Lead and Foster/Adoption Coordinator, bringing extensive rescue, animal care, and foster support experience
A general vet practice (VCA Blossom Hill) with extensive experience and compassion for rescue work, led by former BOD member and current vet advisor Dr. Stacy Hare
A cat behaviorist, Jessica Char of Feline Engineering
An in-home euthanasia vet (Dr. Jeni Goedken) for our fospice cases
A dedicated team of volunteers supporting foster parents every step of the way
Foster parents are provided education and training via our team of experts. In addition, our foster parents have access to a proprietary Feline Foster Program portal with extensive informative resources collected over years of rescue work. Foster parents also provide key feedback in the adoption process to help ensure the best possible match for the pet they have cared for.
Fostering a pet in need with SVPP requires a significant commitment to our cause, along with the patience and understanding that healing takes time. Fostering is a labor of love, and every rescue journey is unique. In some cases, SVPP cares for special needs cats until the end of their life (fospice), working together as a team to ensure their comfort and quality of life remain the top priority.
